Should Border Kids Be Allowed to Stay in the U.S.?

Tens of thousands of unaccompanied minor children from Central America have crossed illegally into the U.S. causing a crisis at the border. President Obama has requested $3.7 billion to help care for and process the minors. Republicans have proposed $659 million to cover the cost of immigration law enforcement, steps to prevent further immigration and strengthen the border.

Demonstrators from both camps have staged rallies at the border insisting more be done to deal with the crisis.

1)	Should minor children that crossed the border illegally be immediately deported?
	Yes, illegal minor children should be sent home and reunited with their family in their home country. No, illegal minor children should have the opportunity to be placed with family living in the U.S. and given due process prior to any deportation. I don't know.

2)	Do you believe Obama’s 2012 immigration policy benefiting children brought to the U.S. illegally before 2007 is to blame for the flood of minor children crossing the border?
	Yes, Obama’s policy allowing illegal children to apply for deferral of removal proceedings has sent the signal that the U.S. will not deport minor children. No, the children crossing the border are fleeing poverty and violence in their home countries. I don't know.

3)	Mass poverty, high crime and gang violence have been blamed for the minors coming from El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. Due to the conditions in their home countries, should minor children be able to apply for asylum?
	Yes, these children are refugees and should be given the opportunity to apply for asylum. No, these children crossed the border illegally breaking the law and should be sent home. I don't know.

4)	Do you think more money needs to be spent to secure our border with Mexico?
	Yes, we must immediately secure the border with Mexico to stop illegal immigration. No, comprehensive immigration reform is needed. I don't know.
